The National Indigenous Anglican Bishop, the Anglican Council of Indigenous Peoples (ACIP), and the Sacred Circle granted canonical recognition
June 21st, National Aboriginal Day, is to be recognized in the Church calendar
A study to be conducted on halting Anglican clergy from solemnizing matrimony
Task Force for Liturgy to be formed to create and test new and revised contemporary liturgical texts since the Book of Alternative Services (BAS) of 1985 is now considered out of date.
To consider by 2013 an addition to the Baptismal Covenant in the BAS that would address “our ministry to sustain, respect, and renew the earth as stewards of creation”
Balanced budget planned for 2012
Council of General Synod (CoGS) reduced from 42 members to 31 (26 elected)
Two ACIP members and one Lutheran added to CoGS
New formula to determine diocesan representation at General Synod based on Easter attendance being considered
Prolocutor Robert Falby and Deputy Prolocutor Harry Huskins both re-elected
Partners in Mission and EcoJustice Committee reduced from 21 to 11
Anniversaries celebrated at Synod
300 years of continuous Anglican worship in the Diocese of Nova Scotia and PEI
200 years of support by the ACC to the Canadian Bible Society’s translation work
125 years of mission by the Anglican Church Women in the Canadian Church
100th anniversary of All Saints’ Cathedral in Halifax
50 years of the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund
25th anniversary of the Book of Alternative Services
Upcoming Anniversaries
Synod resolved to mark:
400th anniversary in 2011 of the publication in 1611 of the Authorized Version of the Bible, also known as the King James Version
50th anniversary in 2012 of the 1962 version of the Book of Common Prayer which is also the 350th anniversary of the publication of the 1662 version.
40th anniversary in 2011 of the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission
